PHILADELPHIA – Philadelphia police say an officer has been shot in his bulletproof vest while serving a warrant, and the wanted suspect is in critical condition after an exchange of gunfire.
A police media spokeswoman says the confrontation happened about 6:10 a.m. Wednesday in northeast Philadelphia.
Police aren't naming the officer or the suspect, but say the officer appeared to be hit in the lower portion of his vest, near his abdomen.
The officer and suspect were taken to Aria Health Torresdale Hospital.
The officer was in stable condition.
