The wife of a veteran says negligent treatment at a naval hospital left her husband in a vegetative state, and she is suing the facility.
Shon Hollis' wife, Christina Hollis, filed the lawsuit against Naval Hospital Jacksonville on Tuesday in federal court.
The lawsuit says Hollis went to the hospital last summer for an invasive probe in the colon and gastrointestinal tract to find out why he had bleeding.
His wife says in the lawsuit that Hollis was given anesthesia, despite his history of breathing problems, including sleep apnea.
The lawsuit also says that doctors failed to properly protect Hollis' airway during anesthesia and that he stopped breathing, suffering a brain injury.
Hospital spokeswoman Tammy Begasse says she will comment after viewing the lawsuit.
