A suspected carjacker died after a police chase and reports of shots fired in Northern California while officers searched for the father of a missing 6-month-old girl who vanished over the weekend.
The Siskiyou County Sheriff's Department declined to identify the suspect Monday pending notification of his family. The department also declined to say whether they believe the suspect was 23-year-old Matthew Graham of Happy Valley. Authorities say Graham stole a semi-automatic gun from his mother Saturday after hearing that the search for his daughter, Ember, had turned up a possible lead.
A Shasta Lake husband and wife say they were carjacked at gunpoint Monday morning at their home. Police traced the car through its navigation system and chased it to Dunsmuir, where the suspect died after shots were fired. The Siskiyou Sheriff's Department declined to provide further details.
