A frantic search has been underway in northern California for a 6-month-old baby who was reported missing from her crib three days ago.
Matthew Graham, 24, reported his daughter missing from their Happy Valley home, north of Sacramento, early Thursday morning. Sheriff deputies in Shasta County have labeled him a "person of interest" in the disappearance of little Ember Graham. She suffers from seizures and needs medication to control them.
Graham has been in jail on a probation violation since the disappearance, the Redding Record Searchlight reported Saturday.
The baby's mother Jamie Lee Graham, 19, said her husband would do anything to help Ember. “We’re behind him on this,” she told the paper.
“He’s not somebody who you would ever fear, not somebody who I was ever concerned about being around our daughter or even afraid that he would do something to her,” she said. “There’s never been a thought in my mind that he would ever hurt anybody.”
She told the paper on video that she just wants to find her daughter.
“I’m not concentrated on them accusing him,” she said, adding, “I don’t think he had anything to do with it, honestly.”
Her husband’s relatives organized a search for the baby on Saturday. About a dozen of them met at a VFW in downtown Redding and then fanned out across Shasta County hunting for clues.
Graham told investigators he last saw the baby in her crib Wednesday night.
He became a person of interest in the disappearance after giving inconsistent statements to investigators.
His father told the Record his son wound up in jail on the probation violation after admitting to investigators that he smoked marijuana.
Wayne Graham said his son had a prescription for medical marijuana in the past for back pain.
