A woman and her baby are in good health after the mother gave birth on the side of a Maryland highway.
The Capital (http://bit.ly/1QFsGep) reported that 35-year-old Heather Mewshaw gave birth to Lucia Mewshaw on Wednesday along Interstate 97 in Crownsville, about 30 miles east of Washington, D.C.
Heather Mewshaw was being driven to a birthing center in Annapolis, but the family got stuck in traffic and realized they would not arrive in time. Heather's husband Doug Mewshaw pulled over onto the grass along the shoulder of the highway and called 911. Moments later, Heather gave birth.
The 911 dispatcher helped Doug through the process of tying the umbilical cord and caring for the 7-pound, 5-ounce baby until paramedics arrived and took the mother and daughter to a hospital.
