Pickup truck veers off road, hitting fire hydrant and fatally striking Ohio boy, 13, in yard

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – Ohio authorities say a pickup truck ran off the road, hitting a fire hydrant and fatally striking a 13-year-old boy in his yard.

Ohio State Highway Patrol Sgt. Jason Cadle says Tyree King was pronounced dead at the scene Wednesday evening. The 71-year-old driver of the pickup was taken to a hospital, treated for injuries and released.

Troopers say the pickup was heading southbound just outside Springfield in western Ohio when it went off the road, hitting Tyree and a fire hydrant.

Cadle says investigators were at the scene Wednesday interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence. He says alcohol and speed haven't been ruled out as possible factors.
