Authorities say a service dog has thrown itself in front of a school bus to try to protect its blind owner as the pair crossed a road in New York.
The golden retriever, Figo, came between Audrey Stone and a mini school bus Monday in Brewster. The crash injured both of them and left fur stuck to the bus' front wheel.
According to the Journal News (http://lohud.us/1drjicn ), Brewster Police Chief John Del Gardo says Stone suffered a broken ankle, elbow and ribs. She was still hospitalized Tuesday in Danbury, Connecticut.
Figo underwent surgery and has a leg splint. He'll remain at a veterinary hospital until Stone is able to care for him.
The driver says he didn't see the pair. He was given a summons for failing to yield to a pedestrian.

This story has been corrected to show the dog's name is Figo, not Bigo.
