Alyshia Strong was effectively left an orphan 14 years ago when her father killed her mother and half-sister. Still, the girl is urging Gov. Jay Nixon to spare his life.
Richard Strong faces execution Tuesday for killing Eva Washington and her 2-year-old daughter from a previous relationship. Both were found dead Oct. 23, 2000, in her apartment in St. Ann. Alyshia, then 3 months old, was unharmed.
Alyshia said in an interview with The Associated Press on Monday that she sometimes struggles in life and her father plays an important role in counseling her.
A spokesman for Nixon says a clemency petition is under review.
Strong's attorney has also filed an appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court claiming that Strong suffers from severe depression.
