WAUKESHA, Wis. – The attorney for a 12-year-old girl accused of stabbing a classmate to please the horror character Slender Man plans to ask a court to move his client from juvenile detention to a residential psychiatric treatment center.
Anthony Cotton also wants the girl's $500,000 bail reduced to a signature bond. A hearing is scheduled in Waukesha County Circuit Court Friday morning. Cotton says the defendant needs additional treatment for schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders.
The 12-year-old girl and her 13-year-old friend, both of Waukesha, are charged as adults with attempted first-degree intentional homicide in the stabbing of Payton Leutner. She survived 19 stab wounds.
The Associated Press isn't naming either of the girls charged in case they end up in juvenile court, where proceedings are closed to the public.
