A homeless man in South Daytona, Fla., beat and strangled a dog while at least three people watched, police said Monday.
According to The Daytona Beach News-Journal, Ray Comer, 56, is charged with felony animal cruelty for killing a dachshund with a shoelace.
Three witnesses called 911 to report the incident, the report said.
According to police, Comer left the dog on a sidewalk and fled, but left his Florida identification card lying next to the dog's body.
The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports that police found Comer with no shirt or shoes, and said he wanted to be arrested.
He is being held on $2,000 bail.
