The murder trial of a 17-year-old charged with killing an Australian college baseball player in southern Oklahoma has gone to the jury.
Jurors in Stephens County District Court received the case shortly before noon Friday following closing arguments by attorneys.
Chancey Allen Luna is charged with first-degree murder in the August 2013 shooting death of 22-year-old Christopher Lane. Lane was shot in the back while jogging along a city street in Duncan.
Defense attorneys acknowledge that Luna fired the fatal shot, but say he was only trying to scare Lane. If convicted, Luna faces life in prison either with or without the possibility of parole.
Lane was a member of the East Central University baseball team in Ada. He was in Duncan visiting his girlfriend when he was shot.
