A "watershed" document in the history of Vermont is going on the auction block.

The 1774 arrest warrant for Vermont Revolutionary War hero Ethan Allen and other leaders of the Green Mountain Boys will be auctioned by Swann Auction Galleries in New York on April 14.

The partial document, which includes only one of two leaves, was signed by William Tryon, the then-governor of New York.

The proclamation came at a crucial period in a conflict over land between Vermont and New York and right before the Revolution.

Swann estimates the document is worth between $3,000 and $4,000. The auction house say that copies of the proclamation would have been widely disseminated but it has found no other copies at auction.
