A state lawmaker says a former University of Oklahoma student caught on video leading a racist chant has reached out to her and plans to meet with black civic leaders to personally apologize for his role in the incident.
Sen. Anastasia Pittman says the student, Levi Pettit, called her personally to apologize and asked to meet with her face to face. The Oklahoma City Democrat, who leads the Oklahoma Legislative Black Caucus, says she arranged for Pettit to meet Wednesday with leaders from the state's black community.
Pittman says Pettit also is scheduled to speak at an afternoon press conference at a Baptist church on the city's predominantly black northeast side.
Pettit's parents issued an apology on his behalf two weeks ago.
