Georgia prosecutors say a metro Atlanta man convicted of raping a woman, shaving her head and giving her a bag of her hair has been sentenced to life in prison.

Cobb County District Attorney's spokeswoman Kim Isaza says 55-year-old David Martin of Marietta was sentenced Thursday on charges of rape, aggravated sodomy, false imprisonment and more.

Martin and a woman he was dating argued at his house in Marietta on Oct. 15, 2013, and he refused to let the woman leave. Isaza says over the course of 12 hours, Martin bound the woman with zip ties, tied a rope around her neck, threatened her with a gun and raped her.

Prosecutors say Martin shaved the woman's head before letting her go and later wrote from jail asking for her forgiveness.
