In a courtroom twist, the family friend of a New York City man charged with pointing a laser at aircraft has claimed responsibility for it.

It unfolded Friday at a Bronx court date for Frank Egan, the man arrested this week. Police had said Egan admitted using the laser Monday night, but Egan denied any involvement.

The friend, Elehecer Balaguer, came to court with Egan. Balaguer said in court that he aimed the laser pointer at a police helicopter that flew overhead, injuring several pilots' eyes. He says Egan was sleeping at the time.

Balaguer hasn't been charged. But he was taken into custody for skipping court in a marijuana-possession case.

He and Egan are due back in court April 17. It should be clearer then who will be prosecuted.
