In an Orange County courtroom, attorneys have dueled for a year over allegations that authorities misused jailhouse informants, hid evidence and lied on the witness stand.

On Thursday, they are expected to wrap up arguments over whether convicted killer Scott Dekraai should have his life spared or the district attorney's office recused from his case over the allegations.

Dekraai's lawyer has accused authorities of trying to cover up a jailhouse informant program and says their failure to disclose extensive records tracking inmates' movements shows his client can't get a fair trial.

Prosecutors say the records don't shed new light on why Dekraai was housed near an informant and that the informant's testimony isn't being used anyway.

Dekraai has pleaded guilty to shooting to death eight people in a hair salon.
