Barnes & Noble Education Inc., which is in the process of spinning off from parent company Barnes & Noble Inc., said Monday that it invested in online college study guide marketplace Flashnotes.

The companies did not disclose financial details of the deal.

Flashnotes, founded in 2010, lets college students buy and sell class notes, study guides, flashcards and tutoring videos through its website. Barnes & Noble Education said it will promote Flashnotes.com at the 714 bookstores it operates in colleges and universities around the country.

Last month, Barnes & Noble announced plans to spin off its college business by the end of August. Barnes & Noble Education will be a separate company that will trade on the stock market.
