Former Secret Service No. 2 now ICE cybercrime adviser after being forced out of agency

WASHINGTON – The former No. 2 at the Secret Service is now a senior adviser for cybercrime at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

ICE Director Sarah Saldana announced Alvin "A.T." Smith's appointment in an agency-wide email Friday. The Associated Press obtained a copy of the email.

Smith oversaw day-to-day operations at the Secret Service while the agency suffered its most embarrassing scandals. He resigned as deputy director under pressure earlier this week.

Both the Secret Service and ICE are part of the Homeland Security Department.

DHS initially refused to disclose what Smith would do at ICE, saying only that he was transferring to that agency's Homeland Security Investigations unit.
