McRAE, Ga. – Authorities suspect a missing Georgia couple met a tragic end after traveling to meet someone replying to their ad seeking a classic car on the website Craigslist.
Bud and June Runion vanished after leaving their suburban Atlanta home last week for the tiny city of McRae, located three hours south in rural Telfair County. On Monday, investigators found the couple's SUV in a lake not far from McRae. Nearby, they found the bodies of a man and a woman.
Telfair County Chris Steverson called it a "sad ending" after a long search. He told reporters Monday that a suspect, 28-year-old Ronnie Adrian "Jay" Towns, had been charged with making false statements and criminal attempt to commit theft by deception. Towns has not been charged with harming the couple.
