SALT LAKE CITY – A police bomb squad robot is removing a suspicious vest from a bank robbery suspect after officers cleared a city block on the west side of Salt Lake City.
Police Sgt. Robin Heiden said Thursday that the suspect is lying on the sidewalk as the bomb squad investigates wires hanging off the man's vest.
Heiden says officers were struggling with the man as they tried to arrest him on suspicion of robbing a nearby bank when they noticed the wires and backed away.
Police say he matches the description of a man who wore a motorcycle helmet during the robbery.
Heiden had no details about the man's identity or whether he spoke to officers.
