Commuters should expect delays following an early morning fire near Penn Station.
The LIRR says some trains could be diverted to Atlantic terminal in Brooklyn or Hunterspoint Avenue in Queens. It says trains are being canceled at Jamaica Terminal in Queens. Extensive delays are expected on all westbound LIRR trains.
NYC Transit is cross-honoring LIRR fares on the 2, 3, 7 and E lines.
A LIRR spokesman says there was no damage to platform and track areas.
A, E and C subway lines, which had been bypassing 34th Street, are running with residual delays.
The fire broke out at 2:22 a.m. in an underground construction site at 34th Street and Eighth Avenue. It was under control at 5:22 a.m.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
