Probation revoked for man charged in Auburn football player's murder

A judge is revoking probation for a man charged in the killing of an Auburn University football player.

The decision Monday by a Tallapoosa County judge means 22-year-old Markhale Hart of Camp Hill will remain in jail indefinitely awaiting trial in the slaying of Auburn freshman Jakell Mitchell of Opelika.

Hart is charged with murder for allegedly opening fire at a party in Auburn in December and killing Mitchell. Court documents show Hart was arguing with another man before the shooting began.

Hart was on probation for a 2012 burglary conviction at the time. A judge ruled Hart violated probation by being arrested on a murder charge and other actions.

Hart is due in court in Opelika on Tuesday for a preliminary hearing in the murder case.
