Mourners of a New York Police Department officer killed with his partner in an ambush shooting plan to gather at a funeral home for his wake this weekend.
Officer Wenjian Liu (WEHN'-jihn loo) will be remembered Saturday at Aievoli (ay'-vee-OH'-lee) Funeral Home in Brooklyn. A Chinese ceremony Sunday led by Buddhist monks will precede a traditional police ceremony with eulogies. Burial will follow at Cypress Hills Cemetery.
Liu and Officer Rafael Ramos were killed Dec. 20 as they sat in their patrol car. Their shooter had cited the deaths of black men at the hands of white police officers.
The killings raised emotions in the already tense national debate over police conduct.
Liu had been married for two months before he was killed. His funeral was delayed because relatives traveled from China.
Ramos was buried last week.
