Police are investigating the history of 28-year-old Ismaaiyl Brinsley who shot his ex-girlfriend in Baltimore and then came to New York City and ambushed and assassinated two police officers before killing himself as police closed in on him on a subway platform. The man had a long criminal history. It's believed he targeted police officers in retaliation for the deaths of Eric Garner in New York and Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri. The murder of two police officers comes after assaults on police officers at several protests in New York. There was another police officer killed this weekend in Tampa, Florida. Police nationwide are being told to be on alert and wear bulletproof vests. Police in New York turned their backs on the mayor and police chief over the weekend as a symbol of how they feel they're being treated by the de Blasio administration. De Blasio has a lunch today that we'll be covering.

President Obama is on vacation in Hawaii, but is being urged to speak out about the growing racial tensions in the country. When asked on Friday about racial issues during his end-of-year news conference, Mr. Obama replied, "Like the rest of America, black America in the aggregate is better off now than it was when I came into office."

The White House is also refusing to call the North Korean's attack on Sony terrorism.. instead calling it "cyber vandalism." The U.S. has asked the Chinese for help to reign in the North Koreans. Meantime the U.N. security council is discussing the abysmal human rights record of the North Koreans today. The North is angry refusing to participate. Some are criticizing the White House for not taking a tougher stand against North Korea.

Two terror attacks in France have folks there on edge. Both appear to be inspired by radical Islamic groups. 13 were injured in Dijon when a man shouting "Allah Akhbar" ran over people in his car. In Tours, 2 were stabbed before the attacker was killed. He also shouted "Allah Akhbar." ISIS has called for attacks on France for its role in fighting ISIS in Iraq and Syria.
