In a case alleging widespread corruption at the Baltimore City Detention Center, gang members are accused of using smuggled cellphones, dealing drugs and having sex with corrupt guards who helped them as they ran operations of the Black Guerilla Family.
According to court documents, gang member Tavon "Bulldog" White told a friend in a 2013 call that "This is my jail."
A 2013 federal indictment charged White, 16 other inmates and 27 correctional officers with conspiracy, drug distribution or money laundering charges.
Nearly all, including White, accepted plea deals. Starting Wednesday, eight others go on trial.
Prosecutors say that the group plotted to smuggle drugs, cellphones and other contraband, and that the ring involved sex between inmates and guards, which led to four officers becoming pregnant.
