A prosecutor says the staff at a Philadelphia-area elementary school visited an outdated address while checking on the long-absent brother of a 3-year-old boy who was later beaten to death.
Chester County prosecutor Michael Noone said Wednesday the Coatesville Area district's files weren't updated to reflect the family's mid-October move.
Superintendent Cathy Taschner says staff followed protocols and made multiple, unsuccessful attempts to contact the boys' parents by telephone, in writing and by visiting an address on file. The district says it relies on parents to provide up-to-date contact information.
Taschner ordered an internal review after prosecutors said 3-year-old Scott McMillan's 6-year-old brother missed kindergarten for the two weeks before Scott's Nov. 4 death.
The boys' mother and her boyfriend are jailed on abuse and murder charges.
