Midterm Madness

Just one day until the Midterms! 435 House seats, 36 governor's seats, and control of the U.S. Senate up for grabs. Turnout expected to be around 40%. An unpopular President isn't helping Democrats who are facing generally tough elections. There's new NBC News/WSJ polling suggesting the electorate favors the Republicans by slim margins. It's likely to be close. The new polling shows tight margins in several battleground states including Alaska, Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, New Hampshire and North Carolina. The GOP candidate has a slight edge in almost all cases.

We get reads on construction spending and manufacturing today. The Dow and S&P closed at record highs on Friday. Gas prices now below $3 a gallon nationally! That could help Holiday sales this year.

The destruction of Virgin Galactic's expirmental spacecraft may have been at least partially caused by the early deployment of a device meant to slow the ship down. A co-pilot was killed and another injured in the accident on Friday.

The World Trade Center officially opens today. It's the tallest building in the United States and fills the hole left by the destruction of the twin towers on 9/11. Vogue owner Conde Nast is the first and biggest tenant and begins moving in today.

The terminally ill patient who moved to Oregon to "die with dignity", Brittany Maynard, ended her life over the weekend with a lethal drug cocktail. She set off a national debate about physician-assisted suicide.
