An Atlanta police officer charged in the slaying of a 26-year-old woman he met online is facing his first court appearance.

Authorities say 23-year-old Tahreem Zeus Rana is scheduled to appear in court at 11 a.m. Friday after being arrested Thursday at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials say he was scheduled to board a plane to Monterrey, Mexico when he was apprehended.

Vernicia Woodard was shot Friday in Hapeville after meeting Rana in person for the first time, Hapeville police told WGCL-TV. Authorities say Rana is charged with murder, arson and kidnapping in connection with her death.

Detective Stephen Cushing told the Atlanta TV station that Woodard's body was then burned "to cover up any type of evidence that may be there."
