Judge gives operator of West Virginia pain clinic his medical license back after suspension

A judge has reinstated a West Virginia doctor's medical license a month after it was suspended by the state over procedures at his clinic.

Kanawha County Circuit Judge Charles King issued a preliminary injunction Thursday halting the suspension issued last month by the state Board of Osteopathic Medicine. The injunction allows Dr. Roland Chalifoux Jr. to resume practicing immediately.

Chalifoux operated Valley Pain Management in McMechen.

Health officials had said an investigation found Chalifoux didn't wear a surgical mask during epidural injections, that the clinic reused syringes on more than one patient and had other sanitation issues.

But King said that no clinic inspections had been conducted since last December, and that the board "failed to show that Dr. Chalifoux engaged in practices which may pose a risk to the public."
