The California Highway Patrol says one of its officers could face serious charges in the videotaped beating of a woman on the side of a freeway.

The CHP said it forwarded its investigation Wednesday to the Los Angeles County district attorney's office to decide whether to press charges.

The July 1 beating of 51-year-old Marlene Pinnock generated outrage after being captured on video.

CHP says the Officer Daniel Andrew, who had previously been ordered to desk duty, has been removed from duty and put on administrative leave.

Andrew said in his report that Pinnock was a danger to herself and had tried to walk into traffic lanes.
