Jurors to keep deliberating in agent's 2nd Hawaii trial; most say more time possibly helpful

Jurors will continue deliberating in a federal agent's second Hawaii murder trial after most of them said it's possible more time will help them agree on a verdict.

The jury has been deliberating for more than a week in the retrial of State Department Special Agent Christopher Deedy, who shot and killed a man during a 2011 altercation at a Waikiki McDonald's. Another set of jurors deadlocked nearly a year ago in Deedy's first trial.

On Thursday, the new jury's forewoman told Judge Karen Ahn that more time might help jurors agree after they sent a note saying it wouldn't. When Ahn polled the jurors, only four disagreed that it's possible more time will help.

Deedy, of Arlington, Virginia, says he was acting in self-defense when he shot and killed Kollin Elderts while in town for a summit. The prosecution says he was drunk and inexperienced.
