Treasury sanctions suspected financiers of terrorist groups in Iraq, Syria

The Treasury Department is levying sanctions against three men suspected of helping finance terrorist groups in Iraq and Syria.

Two, who are based in Kuwait, allegedly support the Syria-based group al-Nusrah Front, which has ties to al-Qaida.

The other is suspected of helping the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.

Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence David Cohen on Wednesday called on the Kuwaiti government to do more to disrupt terrorist financing.

The three individuals sanctioned are: Shafi Sultan Mohammed al-Ajmi (Shafee al A' jah-mee), Hajjaj Fahd Hajjaj Muhammad Sahib al-'Ajmi (Ha-jah al-A' jah-mee) and Abd al-Rahman Khalaf 'Ubayd Juday' al-'Aniz. (Ab-del rah-man al-An-iz)

The action freezes any assets the three might have in U.S. jurisdiction and bans U.S. citizens from doing business with them.
