A new development in central Florida is believed to be the first retirement community in the United States catering to people born in India.

ShantiNiketan (shan-tee-nick-KAY-ten) is one of a growing number of niche retirement communities aimed at people of specific ethnic backgrounds, hobbies or collegiate allegiances. The name means "House of Peace" in Hindi.

Niche retirement communities are growing particularly popular as the 76 million baby boomers reach retirement age.

Experts says the large, mass retirement communities that have been popular with previous generations will soon be competing with such smaller, niche-oriented developments designed for people of similar backgrounds or interests.
