95-year-old Army veteran finally receives WWII medals

A 95-year-old Army veteran from Burrillville has finally gotten military honors he earned in World War II.

Percy Wilson was presented with numerous medals Friday at a ceremony in U.S. Sen. Jack Reed's Cranston office.

Reed's office says Wilson joined the Army in 1941 when he was 22. He served with the Headquarters Battery Field Artillery Battalion during the battles of Normandy and the Rhineland.

He has now received the Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal, World War II Victory medal and American Campaign medal, among others. He was honored for his "exemplary conduct, efficiency and fidelity" while on active duty engaged in combat.

The Rhode Island Democrat calls the medals a "small token" of the country's gratitude and respect for Wilson's service.
