World War II enthusiasts wanting to check out one of the world's few remaining B-24 bomber planes can get their chance in southern Illinois.

The vintage aircraft named "Diamond Lil" and built in 1941 is at Williamson County Airport in Marion for maintenance and repairs.

Some 18,000 of the planes were produced, but only a dozen or so are left worldwide. Ten of them are in museums, and the remaining two still are flying.

Diamond Lil never saw combat and was used for training until a landing accident.

The plane is open to public tours from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Anyone willing to pay $374 for a 30-minute flight in the bomber may do so next Thursday.
