At least 30 people were injured Thursday after a portion of a two-story detached garage in a Houston-area residential neighborhood collapsed.

More than 100 people were inside the garage at the time of the collapse, which happened around 1:30 p.m. in Katy, the Houston Chronicle reported. Some of the people were on the second floor when the first-floor ceiling gave way, the paper said.

The collapse occurred at what the Chronicle said was a religious event.

No life-threatening injuries were immediately reported, and most of those hurt suffered cuts and bruises, authorities said. But at least one person suffered a head injury, and six of the injured included children.

Authorities said several people held up beams to allow rescue workers to reach a few people who were trapped underneath.
