Firefighters and others in Oregon worked for three hours to rescue a horse that had fallen into a muddy hole that held it like quicksand.

The horse named Missy apparently fell off an embankment into a shallow creek where she was trapped by mud up to her sides.

The Statesman Journal reports (http://stjr.nl/1y8HcQ2 ) Marion County Fire District No. 1 responded Sunday, and firefighters worked about two hours before the owner called in a front-end loader.

The heavy equipment was fitted with lifting straps and a veterinarian sedated Missy before she was extricated from the mud and placed on stable ground.
