CUMBERLAND, Md. – A woman who says she was molested by a Maryland physician is considering a lawsuit over the state's decision to grant him a medical license despite his 1987 Florida rape conviction.
Cumberland attorney Edward Delaney said Tuesday he has notified Dr. William Dando and Dando's former employer of his client's pending or threatened claim. Delaney says he also plans to notify the state.
The Associated Press generally doesn't identify victims of sexual assaults.
Dando made his first court appearance Tuesday on charges of fourth-degree sex offense and perverted practice involving the 41-year-old patient. The 59-year-old family practitioner has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Both Dando and defense attorney Steven Friend declined to comment.
Delaney says the woman wants to try to make sure something like this isn't allowed to happen again.
