Homicide

Another man cleared in Brooklyn district attorney's review of old homicide cases

A judge has tossed out the murder conviction of a New York City man in a 1997 slaying.

The decision came Tuesday after prosecutors told the judge a reexamination of the case against Roger Logan found evidence he was wrongfully convicted.

The 53-year-old Logan was released after serving 17 years of a sentence of 25 years to life.

The decision raised to seven the number of dismissals since Brooklyn District Attorney Kenneth Thompson intensified the work of a special unit re-examining 90 convictions from the 1980s and 1990s.

The bulk of the cases stem from concerns about the investigative tactics of a now-retired detective. New evidence the detective coached a witness led to the exoneration last year of a man who served 23 years in prison for a rabbi's slaying.
