56-year prison sentence for man who authorities say went on Utah-Nevada crime rampage

A man who authorities say went on a crime rampage that spanned two states and left a Utah couple dead has been sentenced to up to 56 years in Nevada for a kidnapping, robbery and botched car-jacking at a casino.

Twenty-four-year-old Logan McFarland will have to serve at least 21 years before he's eligible for parole. He's also expected to be returned to Utah's Sanpete County to face homicide charges in the slaying of an elderly couple found dead in their Mount Pleasant home on Dec. 31, 2011.

That's the same day police say McFarland and his 26-year-old girlfriend Angela Atwood tried to carjack a woman's car outside a West Wendover, Nevada, casino.

The Elko Daily Free Press reports (http://tinyurl.com/o5v6bmv ) McFarland apologized during Wednesday's sentencing. Hill earlier was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
