Retired Air Force Lt. Gen. Frank Klotz is visiting New Mexico to get a firsthand look at the testing beds at one of the nation's top federal labs as he settles in to his new position at the helm of the National Nuclear Security Administration.

Klotz will tour Sandia National Laboratories on Thursday afternoon.

He also plans to meet with the directors of Sandia, Los Alamos and Lawrence Livermore national laboratories.

Klotz was confirmed as NNSA administrator just last month. He plans to visit all of the NNSA sites in the coming weeks.

Klotz appeared before a U.S. Senate subcommittee just last week to testify in support of President Barack Obama's $11.7 billion budget request for the agency. He said that request represents the president's commitment to nuclear security.
