A man who walked into a New Jersey Holiday Inn with his wife for some wings and drinks left behind a very generous $1,000 tip for the bartender to help pay for her ailing dog’s surgery.

Christina Summitt, 37, told Fox News that she was so shocked at what the tipper did that her first reaction was to swear.

"I showed my sister and she then swore," Summitt said on Sunday. “I walked back and I said Joe, you know what you’ve done,” she said. “This is a thousand dollars. And he said, ‘I want you to put it towards Tucker’s surgery.’”

Summitt said she cried. "I couldn't believe this was happening," she said. "I ran around the bar like a maniac and I hugged the gentleman with everything I got. And he leaned back and he said, 'Don’t worry about it.'”

Summitt works at the Holiday Inn in Clinton with her sister. The man who left the tip came in with his wife the night before Easter. As they ate, Summitt said they got into a conversation about dogs after he saw a tattoo on her arm of a dog’s paw-print.

During the chat, she told him that Tucker, a Great Dane-black Labrador mix, had just undergone surgery that day to have something removed from his stomach. She thought it was a tumor. It turned out Tucker swallowed a tennis ball. She told the man the vet bill was expensive, about $2,700.

When it came time to pay the $80 tab, the man signed a credit card receipt and filled out $1,000 for the tip amount.

“Tucker’s doing great,” Summitt told Fox News.  “It’s great this story has given people a restored faith in humanity.”
