Ex-member of 1970s radical group says he's losing his University of Illinois teaching job

A former member of the radical 1970s group the Symbionese Liberation Army says the University of Illinois has told him he'll lose his job teaching there.

James Kilgore said Tuesday that he was told earlier this month that the university will not let him teach classes after this semester. He said he was not told why, but he suspects the university was pressured by donors or people with political connections.

Kilgore has worked at the job Urbana-Champaign campus since 2011. Kilgore teaches two classes.

University spokeswoman Robin Kaler declined comment.

Kilgore was released from prison in 2009 after serving six years for his role in the killing of housewife Myrna Opsahl during a 1975 bank robbery.

The SLA is best known for kidnapping newspaper heiress Patricia Hearst in 1974.
