An 83-year-old Alabama man told police he opened fire on a home intruder early Saturday morning after he allegedly kicked in his glass door.

The Huntsville homeowner told police the man came to his home around 12:30 a.m.in the guise of a person who needed help, Al.com reported. The alleged intruder kicked out the glass in the door and forced his way in when the resident went to call 911, according to the 83-year-old.

The resident said he got his handgun and fired a shot that hit the alleged intruder in the chest. The resident said the man then dove out the window and ran away. Police couldn't find him, the report said.

The website reported that a suspect who matched the same description apparently robbed another home a few blocks away.

The resident of the home wasn't injured and faces no charges.
