Spokeswoman: Atlanta archbishop expects to decide whether to sell or keep $2.2M mansion

The Roman Catholic archbishop of Atlanta expects to soon decide whether to keep or sell a $2.2 million mansion built for his use.

Atlanta Archbishop Wilton Gregory convened a special meeting Saturday with nearly 60 representatives of the archdiocese to discuss the Tudor-style mansion. Gregory spokeswoman Patricia Chivers said Gregory wants to reach a decision Saturday on what to do with it.

Some Catholics in Gregory's diocese have criticized the archbishop for building so luxurious a residence, citing the example of austerity set by Pope Francis. Gregory moved into the new home in January.

Gregory has apologized for his decision. He previously said that he believes that diocesan representatives will recommend selling the property.

Under church law, Gregory gets the final say on whether to keep or sell the mansion.
