Ohio judge convicts man of child endangering after heroin overdose at McDonald's play area

A man police say overdosed on heroin in a McDonald's play area near Cincinnati has been convicted of child endangering.

Hamilton County Municipal Judge Cheryl Grant convicted 37-year-old Robert Palmer on two misdemeanor charges after a nonjury trial Thursday. Sentencing is scheduled for April 14.

The fire department in Green Township responded to a call March 9 about two unresponsive adults in the restaurant's indoor play area. They needed emergency treatment for what police called "life-threatening overdoses."

Authorities said the couple from Dillsboro, Ind., acknowledged using heroin while with two children, a 5-year-old girl and 8-year-old boy. Palmer is the girl's father.

Attorney Michael J. Trapp says Palmer is remorseful and didn't intend to harm the children.

A trial for 33-year-old Tamica Jeffers is still pending.
