Georgia man indicted on murder charge in New York City crash that killed transit bus driver

A Georgia man has been charged with murder after allegedly stealing a truck and crashing it into a New York City bus.

The Manhattan district attorney said Wednesday that 23-year-old Domonic Whilby, of Griffin, Ga., also has been indicted on aggravated vehicular homicide, vehicular manslaughter and other charges.

Prosecutors say Whilby had a blood alcohol level of 0.18, more than double the legal limit for drivers.

They say he stole the truck from a hotel loading dock on Feb. 12. Along the way, he allegedly struck a taxi, another truck and a scooter before blowing through two red lights and hitting the bus. Bus driver William Pena, of Hillside, N.J., was killed.

Information about Whilby's lawyer wasn't immediately available.

Pena was the first city bus driver killed in a collision in more than 14 years.
