Army completes investigation of Colorado soldier accused of deliberately avoiding flag salute

The Army is declining to publicly disclose any possible punishment for a Colorado soldier depicted in an Instagram that included comments saying she deliberately avoided saluting the flag.

The incident involving Pfc. Tariqka Sheffey, who is stationed at Fort Carson, touched off a military investigation and a storm of criticism.

The Colorado Springs Gazette (http://bit.ly/1feLQ29 ) reports that the decision not to disclose any punishment means Sheffey will not be court-martialed.

The Army said Friday that it had completed its investigation and any punishment would be handled administratively by a unit commander. It says Army policy is not to disclose administrative actions.

Administrative punishment provides a range of options, including "verbal counseling."

Sheffey is assigned to the 59th Quartermaster Company, 43rd Sustainment Brigade, which provides supplies and support to soldiers.
