NYFW - J Mendel Fall 2014 - The Russian American Dream

J Mendel designer Gilles Mendel showed a super luxury collection of furs and dresses in one of the closing shows of Fashion Week here in New York City. Mendel comes from a long line of Russian furriers (the firm was founded in St. Petersburg in 1870), but Gilles Mendel moved operations to New York in 1981. The company expanded from fur to ready-to-wear in 2002.

Former top model, and haute couture collector Tatiana Sorokko was seated front row at the show on the snowy closing day of Fashion Week. She said she really liked the show, "With all the fabulous furs, Gilles paid homage to his Russian heritage, and with all the pleated dresses it was a perfect happy American ending."

Also at the show were actresses Anna Kendrick, Kelly Rutherford, and Vanessa Marano.
