NYFW - Vivienne Tam's Tribute to the Caves of the Thousand Buddhas for Fall 2014

Vivienne Tam presented her Fall 2014 collection at the Lincoln Center tents for New York Fashion Week.

The Chinese-born designer told me the collection was inspired by the Dunhuang Caves of China. The important historic sites are part of the famous Silk Road, and span 1,000 years. Also called the Caves of the Thousand Buddhas, they are an important part of the Chinese culture.

The inspiration showed up in the collection in prints, fabrics and laces. Tam was very excited about the choices in the collection saying "For me it's not about fabric, but about patterns." She called the clothes soft and romantic.

There was also a strong 1970's vibe to the clothes.

Tam also unveiled a live online collaboration with the social media company "WeChat" which is making a big push into the United States.
